Archetypes and Stereotypes

Stereotypes happen all the time and are always shown in tv shows whereas archetypes are not as widely recognised. Holby City is a medical tv drama linked with another medical tv drama Casualty, both have a few stereotypes of different jobs that men and women do. A doctor is thought of as being a man but in this tv drama we can see that it is a mix of both, also usually people think that men cannot be nurses when you see quite a few men doing this job. The porters of a hospital are stereotyped as men but as shown in Holby City  you can just as easily have women porters. An archetype in Holby City is one of the doctors 'Jac Naylor' she seems all serious, headstrong, opinionated and quite bossy but on the inside she is quite emotional and there is a different side to her as she just puts on a front, she is quite insecure. 'Michael Spence' is chauvinistic, arrogant and self-centred that is just the way he is and how he comes across. 'Elliot Hope' another member of Holby City is perceived as being clever but also very soft maybe as far as to even say a bit gullible. In casualty 'Charlie Fairhead' is Senior Charge Nurse, portrayed as indispensable, trustworthy and a diplomatic member of the team, whereas 'Zoe Hanna' is described as strong, cheeky, rebellious, very selfish, very righteous, very rude and self-centred. She seems a hard person.

By these examples we can see that there is obviously more to a person than meets the eye and also stereotypes are normally shown as being negative towards people instead of true perceptions.
